Did you leave the stock electronic carb on? or did you get a carb of a 70's 2.8 v6? The stock carb mixed with the duraspark upgrade will cause it to run very rich. You need to either invest in a 78 pinto carb, which is a non electronic motorcraft 2150, or a jetted down holley 350. You can get the 2150 super cheap from an auto wrecker and do a rebuild on it and away you go. I just finished my Duraspark off and I love it. Let me know if you have any more questions.
yes i left the old carburator. wich i thought was a 2150 but looking at the picture. it looks a little diferent from the picture. the vacuum line from the top does not come straight out instead it comes towards the passenger side. the fuel line coming in is the same , the air mixture are the same, no numbers are imprinted on top were they should be, so i dont really know wich carb i have. it is rich and only gives me about 11 MPG 1985 BII 2.8 i want to say like you"i love my BII" but right know because of gas inefficiency I cant say that please help.
Does your Carb have an electrical Solenoid on the back of it? if it does you cannot use this carb because it was meant to be run with the ford ECC-IV Computer system. No matter how much you adjust this carb it will never run right and it will kill Gas Mileage. This is referred to as a Motorcraft 2150A because it is electronic. So if its the old carb off your truck you need to ditch it, because it needs the old computer you took out to run. It will never run good and it sucks for power! Either go to an auto wrecker and pick up a pinto, capri, mustang II with a Motorcraft 2150 2.8 carb from around the year 1978-79. If you don't have a wrecker around you can buy a re-manufactured carb, which I don't recommend, from a parts store for those same year of cars. If you have to buy new I would invest in a Holley 350 carb and buy new #54 jets. That will give your truck some serious go go juice. its most likely around 300$ for a Holley 350. Here is a link to Broncoii.org site that goes over the duraspark conversion with some pictures.
my carb doesnt have anything hooked up in the back. on the pass side has a wire from the choke to the alternator. I gess the previous owner had changed it. all my DS conversion is done exept my carb but this may be the right one since it dose not have any electronics to it. if i find out that this is the right one then i will rebuild it. so i gess if it does not have any electrinics to it it it the right one? is killing me on mileage
Do a rebuild then. It could have a stuck power valve on the inside of the carb which would cause it to run rich. Also on the driver side wall of the fuel bowl you will see some stamped numbers. They should say 1.08. Which indicates the venturi size of the carb. Any bigger numbers could cause it to run rich because the carb would have been sized for a bigger motor.
there is a holley 350 on ebay for 19.99. is this a good investment. it is for a 1974 international will this fit my 2.8? will any holley fit as lang as it is a 350?
Actually I have no idea. I would have to take a look at it and see. I would think so as long as its bottom mounting points are the same. I believe also that the holley 350 are manual choke so you might have to rig that up as well. Check out the Holley Web site to be sure.
completed carb 2150 rebuild. adjusted air fuel mixture screws as indicated above. duraspark completed. only getting 10 to 11.5 MPG. gas mileage no good. please help. i like to get better mileage.1985 B2 2.8 v6 no exhaust smoke only a littler when i first start up in the morning but not much at all.
