C6, no shift

Hey guys. Million from the 73-79 sent me over here im guessing mostly because everyone got tired of listening to me ramble on to myself. Anyhow I have a 79 f250, 4x4, 460,C6, Np205. A week or so ago I noticed that shifting into drive took longer and longer and then practically all at once it quit shifting, period. I remembered a while back poor dumb ole me pinched the vacuum line while replacing a valve cover gasket and she wouldnt shift exactly the same way. It will shift manually from first to second but when I shift from second to drive it goes back into first. I replaced both vacuum lines and inspected the steel line and replaced the vacuum modulator and still the same symptoms. The mod was good because it didnt have any of the signs of a bad mod meaning the engine oil level wasnt high and the transmission fluid wasnt low. I decided to try the old mod again and still had the same problems. I have what im assuming is good vacuum, it'll suck on your finger and stay there while running but im not sure how many pounds. How many should it have? What else could be wrong with it, would it be an internal matter? If so is it something easily fixable? Couldnt I just install a full manual shifting shift kit and just shift gears myself making drive into a third gear? Thanks guys im really in a pintch and I apreciate it very much!

well mine had the same symtoms and I had to have the tranny rebuilt as 3rd gear was totally gone and 2nd was on the way out. $1299 later It shifts like it is supposed to. the tell tale sign for me that the tranny was gone was when teh pan was pulled it was full of black fluid. The fluid on the dip stick was also no longer red but very dark.

Hmmm. I serviced mine not long ago and the fluid wasnt bad, a little bronze and very little shavings in the filter. I wish I had 1300 to spend on a rebuild right now.

Rebuild should only cost around $400 if you pull it yourself and stick it back in.
