Maybe the wrong hose, the lower hose usually has a coil of spring wire inside the hose or built into the hose to keep it from collapsing.

Cooling problem What did I do wrong?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 21-Nov-02 AT 05:57 PM (EST)]I think I might have a bigger problem than that. I was reading and I am afraid that I put the pass side headgasket on backwards. The temp guage stays in the middle, but the eng seems hot. I also hear strange sounds coming from the passanger side of the eng,Sounds like boiling cracking sounds. The overflow tank fills at low idle and empty's when I increase rpm! Can anyone help! My gallery tells you what I did. Thanks Art

Sounds like time to R&R the heads :-(

Check that lower hose spring, it keeps the hose from collapsing. It takes very little vacuum to make a hose that size collapse.

I assume you still have the restrictor plate in the water passages.

It looks like you had fun with your rebuild.

Check my sig...

Thanks for using FTE!

oh no! What is a water restrictor plate? I put tback what I took off. Were is it located.? I checked more this afternoon. Boy until the temp rises all is ok. Just for kicks I took out the thermostat (195)to see if it was stuck. Closed up and started eng and here is what happened!

This is totaly weird!

1. Let eng warm up, temp guage when to mid range. At no time does it go above mid range. A new sender installed orginal guage in dash. Is there a difference in dash guages for 8cyl? I had a 300 six before.
2. Increased rpm the lower hose wanted to turn it self inside out!
3. Radiator was very hot on top. Cold on bottom (New 4 core rad).
4. The radiator cap opened and filled the overflow container 1/2 way.
5. decreased rpm and sucked all fluid out of the overflow container
6. Let eng cool down, squeezed lower hose and it seemed the Radiator cap was still open to the overflow.
7. Still hear rumble, crackling on pass side in eng.

I ordered a seperated temp guage and sender. I could not find a lower hose with a spring. I ordered one the rigid crome one.

Would these symptoms be the head gasket on backwards? I plan on removing the pass side head next weekend. I can think of anything else the would be wrong. Any thoughts? Thanks Art

Its FIXED!!! Yep I put the headgasket on backwards, the front markings were towards the back, and the main passage way to cool the head was completly blocked. I am real lucky I did not run the on the road. Also the lower Radiator hose does not collapse. Thanks for eveyones help. Art:7
