Hello guys oil pump question
I was reassembling my 7.3 when I noticed the old oil pump stator had caused a rut in the the front cover of the engine. The front cover is aluminum ofcourse. I showed it to my machinist and he said, don't worry about it. Well, I 'm up to around $4,000 on this rebuild and I would hate myself if I sabotaged it on the oil pump. So my question is, Is a rut on the aluminum cover o.k. ?? If not, where can I get a new cover ?? I would weld it but the resurfacing it would require a machine shop . I'm just lost. Anyone with some advise in this area I would appreciate alot. Thank You, DESY

I can't remember if you truck is a 95. If it was, I'd look into replacing it with a 96 or 97. That way you can go to a SD hpop later and not worry about the bleed down. As for the rut, the way I look at it you should replace it. But that's just my opinion.

FYI from the Ford Service Manual: Check the oil pump and housing and replace if the following is out of spec.: Oil Pump Drive Grear end clearance = 0.001-0.003 / Oil Pump Radial clearance = 0.012-0.032.
