223 Six. Differences between older & newer?

223 Six. Differences between older & newer?
Is there any major differences between a 1954 223 and a 1960 223? My 54 needs rebuilding. The newer one is said to run good and is reasonably priced. Any reason I can't or shouldn't swap? Thanks

I'm no expert on the 223's but here is what I know. The 54 valve cover is different than the 60. The 54 uses 2 studs and the 60 uses bolts around the edge. This might make the heads different too I dont know.
The 60 frt motor mount may be different as well.
Starter and generator on the 54 are 6 volt and the 60 is 12 volt.

If the 223 was anything like the Y-block, then valve sizes and compression ratios changed from year to year. They went up and up until 1960, when Ford decided to go back to small valves (for economy), but kept the higher compression. A '60 motor will probably have the same valve sizes as '54, but better compression.
