Hi I need to remove my valve covers to get the intake off and the box for the air on the fire wall seems to look like it's going to hold me up is there a trick to removing it. I'm hoping that I wouldnt have to tip the engine. Is it hard to remove the box on the firewall and replace with a smaller on if I'm going to remove the air all together anyways. thank you
Please respond with more details. Year/Make/Model type along with engine/drivetrain.
That will ensure someone will give the correct advice for you. Someone probably has the same truck with the same options and knows the answer, but we need more to go on.
Normally valve cover removal in a tight space means just unbolting it and once unbolted you can pry up gently to break the seal, and the cover can rotate a bit away from anything like the A/C box. I've never heard of having to tip the engine to remove the valve cover (except perhaps a Pontiac Fierro with the v6..that's a pita to work on).
I'd scope it out and see if you can remove the bolts, and lift it up and tilt it towards the intake in a bit of a rotational fashion. Keep in mind that there is an internal gap between the edge of the valve cover and the rockers, so that should allow a bit of space to work it out.
Keep an eye on this thread for a while longer however. Someone out here in lala land has to have done this before on the same type truck with the A/C box.
