Well I'd have to say I don't think it's the stock ingnition and distributor that's holding you back. I'd have to lean more towards the valve springs .
I currently use a remanufactured distributor and a MSD 6AL and a Blaster Coil on my set-up and I can spin it to 8200 RPM's anytime I want for as long as I want.

The valve springs are the ones recommended from comp cams to match the rpm range. They also have dampeners. I checked all of them before I installed them for open seat pressure and closed pressure. They all came within spec. The installed heights are correct also.
I had a good distributor in there before and didn't notice a problem. It was a Proform High Performance blueprinted distributor. Something broke inside of it and the top part of the shaft will turn while the gear is stationary.
woops.
My initial timing is set at 8 while my total without vac advance is 24 and with vac advance is 38.
Any suggestions?
