i had a 400 with bad mains and rod bearings. it knocked especially when hot. i replaced the bearings and pump and started it up last night for the first time and everything seems to be ok. no more knocks, great oil pressure. it was a pita but it was much cheaper than a complete overhaul. i just wanted to share my good news.
Regarding your earlier post about oil consumption. Just run it and keep a very close eye on your oil level. I got about a year and a half more out of my tired 400 by doing this.
Then, out of the blue the performance really started dropping. It was letting me know it had been through enough.
You will be able to tell when its time to make a serious move.
I did the same thing wed/last week on my 351M. I went from no oil pressure to around 70 lbs @ 2000 RPM. What a pain though!
Glad to here the good news. JJDDOOGG
