hey yall, i bought a new truck today... its a 1990 f150 2wd, 302 V8, auto trans with O/D, shortbed standard cab, and lariat package. heres the question... in order for the dash lights to turn on i had to move the dash switch almost to the point where it turned on the dome light, that little bump thing on the switch when you turn it... well half way home, the dash lights went out and i couldnt get them back on, however the high beam light still worked. any ideas as to how to fix it? also what kind of transmisison do i have off hand?
Congrats on the new truck! Sounds like a nice one.
As far as your dash light problem, I'd just replace the headlight switch. When they get all finicky like that, it's just easier to replace than to fuss with it. Not a real expensive thing, and you should be able to get that done pretty quick.
Which transmission do you have? Pretty easy to figure this one out.
If your selector quadrant is P R N OD D 1, it is an AOD.
If your quadrant is P R N OD 2 1, it is an E4OD (just had a brain fart, if that ain't right, somebody rescue me). You'll also have an overdrive cutoff switch (button, actually) on the lower right side of the instrument panel, to the right of the little cubbyhole (which I refer to as my cigarette bin ) next to the column.
Excellent!! I got one too last week 95-150 reg bed 4x4 I6 245K needs a clutch, with "a" power window run by a toggle switch.....luxury man....
Anyway, when these things go I usually remove and look over clean up try again uninstalled, if no good get the new one. Or like 77 said just get the new one, not worth too much trouble. Mine's in the front end shop, get it back later so I can start tinkering and customizing....
