I have 4 cracked coils on my 2000 F-150 with 149000 km. I already had 1 cracked coil replaced that ended costing me well over $300 with labour. The mechanic moved all the cracked coils to the front of the engine so it was easier to get at them and replaced any boots from the coils that looked bad. It showed with a miss climbing hills around Lake Superior with a good load in the truck and pulling a trailer when going moose hunting. It has only missed once since, but the code cleared before I could find which cylinders were missing and it hasn't happened again since. I want to replace the cracked coils before going moose hunting again, but am not enthused about spending another $400 plus. Has anyone had experience with either the Accel Super Coils or Summit Coils on Summit Racing website @$34.95 ea.???
I don't even spend that much on them, the $100 sets on ebay work just fine. You can also replace JUST the boots if that is your problem, they are only $10-$20ea., maybe less now.
I wont buy another vehicle with cops! they are a pain, 8 damn coils! stupid!!! shoving a plug deep in a motor, good drugs when this was designed. i am about ready to shoot my 99 150.
I have my 00 4.6L 4x4 F150 and I had that issue and I found that instead of trying to move the coils around to diagnose the bad one. Just replace all of them and the plugs as well. I used NGK Plugs and have had no problems at all but I have found on here the suggestion of use OEM plugs which is a dam good Idea. If you have any time and 8mm socket and then a long extension and I think a 5/8" spark plug socket you are set to do it yourself. this will save you a lot of money on the install. I changed mine out in July of 06 and have no problems since. Napa has the coils I think they are around 50 bucks apiece but I found that kragens had them for a little cheaper.
