Today I finally did the tune up that I been putting off. Spark plugs all nice and brown deposits. They looked just like the pictures of what a normal running engine's spark plugs should look like. I was happy. I took the top of the distributor off and changed the rotor it looked good too. I put the new distributor cap on. Man I was doing great! I took the #1 plug wire loose and traced it to distributor expecting it to be connected to #1 terminal on old cap. WRONG. Each old wire was one terminal off. I installed the wires just like the old ones were. Truck runs great. No missing smooth idle everything smooth. Should I pull the distributor and retime it or run it as it is? Advise please and tia for reading and sending advise...Jimmy
If it's running good I wouldn't mess with it, unless you really want to. How many miles are on the engine? Which engine? Ever have the timing chain replaced? My guess is someone either put the dist back in a tooth or two off or the chain is streched and jumped....

No need to worry. The only reason to change it would be if the vacuum advance can on the side of the distributor hit something on the engine as you were trying to set the timing. That's the only real difference on your truck. If you look at another engine like yours, the distributor body would be in a different position, even though they were set at the same timing mark.
