Can somebody tell me if my 1954 f-100 6 cyl. should have a fan shroud from the factory? It runs very high on the temp. gauge at idle or very slow traffic. If i get going 35-40mph the temp. comes down some. The rad. is cleen and in good shape the belt and hoses are new. The engine is good. So did it come with a shroud from the factory with one and if so can i find one?
I'm not sure about the new trucks like yours (I have a 49...lol) but on the 48-52 trucks there are a whole series of deflectors in and around the radiator between the radiator the grill that are there to help direct all the air flow through the radiator core.
For some reason these seem to get taken off and never replaced.
The 48-52 trucks were all equipped with fan shrouds on both the I6 and the V8's (as far as I know)
Every 53_56 I've seen had a shroud , A nd as Bobby points out , there are seals around the radiator support ( lower gravel guard) and at the hood to upper radiator support panel , check M.D Fifty, for the seal s..see if yours are in place , hope this helps, Good Luck!!
What's really amazing to me is that these all came with a shield under the frame, from the front crossmember back to the oil pan. I've NEVER seen a truck that still had one! I can see why, I bet they are a PITA to work around.

I never have seen one on a truck either. I bet the first time the oil was changed it got **** canned.
