Dawg,

Very cool pics! I did notice something very strange though. Your shop seems to be way too clean and organized. How in the heck are you supposed to get anything done if you aren't tripping over things, or having to dig under a mess of stuff on the bench, or having to do the "crap shuffle" to even get close to the truck to see what you're trying to do????

I think you need to get out there right now and spill some oil on the floor, stack up some old boxes here and there, maybe dump a few cans of rusty old bolts on the bench and floor, toss a few wrenches in just for good measure....get with the program!!

Just kidding, looks cool. Did you do your own bodywork?

Bobby,

First off, my good friend Darrel Shea did the Body Work. He also did the Body and Paint on my previous '49. Bodywork is an area where my standards far exceed my skills. He's an amazing Fabricator.

No Soapbox - Just an explanation. I used to work in total disarray. I never cleaned up anything. About 30 years ago, my best friend's Automotive Shop was badly damaged by fire. I let him move into my shop with his gear until his place was rebuilt. He was a neat-nick. When I'd come home from work the place was immaculate. I'd dirty it up at night and then he'd clean it up again in the morning without saying a word. After a few days of this I realized that I usually spent more time looking for misplaced tools than I was getting work done. There was something novel about going to my rollaways and finding the tool where it should be every time. Same thing for Hardware and Parts.

After he moved out, I was converted. I get the place plenty messy in the heat of battle but for me, it's just more efficient to spend that extra 30 minutes cleaning up every day. I like walking out into my shop when it's squared away. I'm not saying I'm right. It just works for me.

Dawg,

LOL.....easy there big fella, i was jut teasing. I try to keep my space clean but somehow it ends up in dissarray. It doesn't help that I have entirely too much crap.
I'll go through and clean and organize everything and work real hard at keeping it that way. Eventually a bit of clutter sneaks in and then before long I have a total mess on my hands (right now I'm in one of those total mess stages)

I think its one of those subconsciouos things that if you are working in a clean and organized shop that you tend to keep things neat and clean. When you are working in a pig sty then you are alot less carefull about it

Glad you are making progress on the truck. I really liked your gallery of past projects, good stuff there

Bobby,

I know you were teasing. It's a good topic I think. There is a constant battle between accumilating "stuff" and maintaining some sort of order. (If that's even a priority).

I've gotten pretty good at giving away and tossing stuff that I probably won't use in reality. Obviously, you keep the collectable stuff. Yeah, once in a while I kick myself for letting something go and then need it, but it doesn't happen very often. The upside is I can usually find my Truck to work on it.....

LOL....I'm trying to get better at not keeping stuff

All the stuff doesn't do you any good if you can't find it when you need it

E-Dawgie - Your truck is looking good. I like that primer look and the straight sheet metal. Sweet, man.

I have to agree with Bobby on the neat thing, though. I clean up after a project is complete, but when in process, the place looks pretty messy. Even after I clean up, my garage never looks as neat as yours. I just have to remember what pile a thing is in. Although, I did discover a nice set of allen drivers that I forgot I had the other day. It felt like Christmas.

Sometimes, when I snap an in-process picture, I wonder what all that crap is in the background. Seems I just don't notice it until I take a picture.

The bigger problem is the "collections" I have amassed. I have two raw materials piles, an old parts pile, a collection of flat cardboard and plywood, etc. I guess I need a shed to hide stuff in. Yeah...that's the ticket!

Humble beginnings!! It's looking GOOOOOOOOOOOOD now!!! I kind of liked how the steering column was turned about 1/2 of a turn around and held in place with a piece of wire. (Very Cool) I had alot of stuff I had to redo on mine too. Again, very nice!!!!! Are you goin to paint it or leave it primered? I like the primered look!!

On the clean thing, I'm a clean fanatic! My mom says I'm kind of like Monk on tv. All my screwdrivers have to have the name pointed out. All my wrenches are in the RIGHT place and so is everything else. If not, it gets real UGLY in the garage!!

Those pics on the Trailer with the Steering Column hanging sideways were taken at the DMV when I was trying to get a Pink Slip created. You need to present the vehicle for inspection as complete as possible or they won't go for it.

As it was they gave me a lot of guff about it but after a chat with the Supervisor, they issued. whew !

Nice gallery and nicely lit work area. Great work on truck too. "Top box, third drawer, left side on front, forth wrench" Yea, that's me on the floor asking my daughter to get me the 7/16" combo. Same with any tool that I may need when on the floor or in a tight spot. It works real good for the both of us, but the pals think I a nut with too much time on my hand. We even have a wash bin for dirty tools b4 putting away. It's all good.

OK I checked out you effort.

Am I happy now?

My wife doesn't understand, she asks where one of my tools is. I point to the garage, house, truck etc. After a half hr or so she still hasn't found it, I reach in my back pocket and hand it too her.
Ya think she would catch on and get her own darn tools.

Dick,

My guess is you have an awesome Wife that knows how to use those tools and the first thing she does when you reach in your back pocket and hand it to her is smack you upside the head with it......
