I got a great deal on alot of FoMoCo parts and one of which was an 02 sensor so I replaced mine...When I redid the top end in my truck I took the liberty of pulling the original out and cleaning it heavily with choke cleaner...when I swapped it out this afternoon...it came out white...like when you change spark plugs....could this mean anything? Thanks in advance...
You want the o2 sensor to be grey, tan, not black and cruddy. If it is light in color it is cleaner thus reading more precicely.
At least this is what the Standard Electronics rep told me. We were getting the same type of question all the time regarding how often to change sensors.
Different colors on the inside of the manifold and sensor can also be deposits from different additives gas companies put in their fuel.
