My 79 460 still has the stock intake and I am looking to upgrade. I want low end grunt, the motor has an rv cam stock heads with porting and was bored .10 over. What intake do I need and from what company. The Holley is a 650 and I will be putting L and L headers on also. Thanks for your input.
The stocker is pretty good for what you are doing and costs you nothing. The aftermarket manifolds will almost all move the peak torque up the power band.
If you are looking at anything below 3000rpm then leave the stocker on it. They aren't worth much after that. Plus you will save a great amount of weight with the Performer.
as for stock intakes go i like the old square bore intatake as oposed to the spead bore. i red somplace years ago a plane jane performer was an oem replacement for some models. i'm very happy with the weiand stealth ive got on the 71
I agree the stock one would work fine. I used a Performer 460 and didn't notice much difference.
Be aware that the L&L headers will hang down under the cross-member.
I pulled my L&L's off and stood them in the corner and put some Hedmans on there. Finishing them up right now. They fit great and fit about the cross-member where you can't see them from beside the truck.
L&L makes a very solid header if you don't mind it hanging way down
