We are going to buy a used Expy and we have an f-150 now. what will happen if we try to use the wrong key to start one of the vehicles? I have heard that the truck thinks it is being stolen and the PALS will corrupt the key and the trucks computer.:-X11
Just a guess here, but an educated one, I hope....
First, the key must pass the mechanical lock interface (the pins in the tumbler all lining up and all that), before you can actually turn it in the ignition switch.
My understanding is that once the ignition switch is turned to 'on,' the anti-theft system talks to the coded key. If it can't be turned to 'on,' then nothing should happen at all.
I think it would be highly unlikely that you would wind up with an Expy and a 150 that would both use the same key profile.
