Ok, I have a 1996 ford f150 XL. I took the door panels off to change out the speakers. While I had the panel off, I got new door clips at autozone. I put the new pins in and they break on the way in and the panel is loose and rattley now. I tried Pepboys and checker, but the same thing happened. So does anyone know where to get good door retaining pins tha wont freaking break as soon as I put the panel on?
On a side note, I was wondering if anyone has changed out the stock instrument cluster that is utter crap, and built one up from scratch?
check a local body shop-they usually get good stuff-or they may tell you where to get them-or a car upholstery shop either one should be able to give you good info
I had the same problem after buying new clips. Went to a different auto store and tried their brand, put alittle grease on them before popping them in the holes and good to go.
I think it likely you purchased some ancient stock that was as brittle as the 13 Y.O. ones already in your door.
I don't remember exactly which brand I picked up @ Levines, but the Auveco packaging looks familiar.
Like jr32560 said try a professional outlet.
Mine are still holding out.
There was a thread recently where some guy gave up and used rivnuts in the door itself and a finished looking screw right through the plastic panel.
More on the subject of Levines: Unable to find touchup paint for my truck (2E Light Canyon Red) I went on their site and ordered it mixed and packaged in spray cans. Had it in 3 days. Great service! http://www.levineautoparts.com/spraycanofto.html
