Finding D60 Frontends

I was trying out a new part search site looking up D60 front ends being offered for sale and thought this might interest a few of you. CT is a bit too far for me to go. This is with 3.54 gears (atleast that is what I was searching under. I wonder what shipping would be on somthing like that?

Dave Sponaugle, let me know if I shouldn't post this kind of stuff here. I am not affiliated with any just found them on searches.. getting frustrated that I cannot find anything out West! Makes me think it might be worth getting a trailer and make a trip and pickup a dozen and bring them out here to Sacramento and sell them all for "cheap" and make a little profit.

Why are all the ones I find in the NE area? 3.54s w/o abs...
$395 - MA
$500 - CT
$575 - RI
$695 - MA
$700 - NH
$750 - DE
$750 - NJ
$750 - PA
$750 - KS (woohoo getting closer!)

Well, I found one in Sacramento for $1000 out of a 86 F350 with 3.54, the tie rod ends are bent. Since I have ABS (and 86 didnt) is there something extra I will have to do to make everything work? Can I take the LS unit from a D60 rear and use it in the D60 front?

Look on the NW craigslist. I see 80-90's Dana 60's on there all the time. There was one available about a week ago in the Medford area. And there is a complete 89-90 Diesel (non running) crewcab for $1800, looked really nice in the picture. And there was a reg cab diesel for pretty cheap.

FYI, they didn't have front ABS in 97 or older. The ABS works off of the rear axle. The differentials will interchange, but be aware that there are many different axle spline counts. The rears are commonly 30 spline and most of the front axles are 35 spline.

Hmm....Thanks Jason. I will have to check the splines. I found a ad for a front axle from a 88 F450 for $400 in NV. Were those also D60 fronts?

Nothing beyond the F350's were available with 4wd. They did have beam axles with leaf springs in the F super duties (450).

Where did you find the axle in KS? That's a good deal and in my area maybe?

I have seen several 450 and Super Duty trucks that had been converted to 4x4 by the local Fire Departments.

Pull a cable like a PTO to engage the 4x4, no low range and a closed knuckle front axle that I can't remember the name of right now.
I did several searches and did find it was used on some construction equipment.
The only thing I found that used the same axle manufacturer that was available locally was Ditch Witch on their trenchers.

I figured getting parts wound be a nightmare, so even though the price was right on the truck, I passed.

Sounds like they were using Dana 70 closed knuckle front ends. I've seen them in all terrain manlifts and cranes. Had another manufacturers name on them too. I've seen a few F Super Duty conversions like that too in wildland fire trucks. But they used standard HP Dana 60's and 13-56's or divorce mounted 205's.

sorry to get your hopes up Chris, I didn't notice it was housing and gears!! That is an absurd price! The only one I found in CA under a grand was housing and gears for $150, not a bad price if I was planning on making a true rock hopper and use all upgraded parts. (for a grand it had bent tie rods, plus it was actually out of a dually so...)
