where are the timing marks supposed to be on a 74 460? there is what looks like a marker sticking out next to the balancer. and how are the banks numbered?
The #'s are on outside of the balancer, try cleaning it up and filling the marks w/ chalk or bright paint to make them easier to see.
#1 is the first on the left, facing the engine, #8 is the right rear.

This ain't a chevy for christ sakes!
Right side numbers 1 thru 4 front to back and left side numbers 5 thru 8. Reference for the engine is alway from the drivers seat as far as left, right, front and back.
