egr delete pipe question

i ordered the up-pipe egr delete pipe from twisted diesel (elite diesel dealer, drop shipped from elite) and had a question about it. this is not the sneaky pipe but the one that is completely straight w/o a pipe going to the egr cooler. do i need to block the port going into the egr cooler and with what if i need to? could water or other stuff going into this pipe cause any problems if it can get into it? thanks

should i just call and get the sneaky pipe since this is going on at the shop (cool ford truck dealer) when the head studs are done to make it easier? is there that much flow difference?

We welded the exhaust inlet and out let ports shut on the egr cooler, that way even if the egr cooler fails then coolant will only fill the egr cooler. Hope this helps

With that blocked off and no exhaust gas getting to the cooler, what happens if the EGR valve were to become operational?

If you don't block the cooler the valve will open causing unfiltered air to flow into the intake.

If the cooler is blocked, what happens if the valve were to open? I am not sure I understand your statement. The EGR cooler will have no gases present if the up pipe is blocked off. From the cooler the cooled gas supplies the EGR valve. What happens if it just opens and closes without the presence of a supply of exhaust gas?

if the egr cooler is blocked off and the egr becomes operational for some reason, nothing should happen with your truck, if the cooler is not blocked off and that happens then you'll be allowing un filtered air into the motor,

I'll let you know in a few weeks what happens to mine. I just did the same thing and didn't want to unplug the EGR and also didn't want unfiltered air getting into the intake so I temporarily covered with heavy duty aluminum tape just so I know it is sealed. Eventually I will do it right by cutting off the flange from the stock pipe and welding it shut, then using the stock gasket and clamp to close it off. I asked who I bought it from why they didn't fab a cover and include it with the pipe, their response was "this part was meant to be a piece of the pie when removing the EGR system completely". Wouldn't it be nice to have fresh filtered air replace the exhaust gases into the system so their would be no codes due to insufficient egr flow?

I don't think any air could be pulled in to the cooler witout exhaust pressure to push it through due to fact that the egr only opens when the exhaust pressure is greater than boost pressure in the intake. I was thinking of some type of filter also but after looking at egr flow in the tech folder im not sure air would ever enter the cooler and the flow could possibly go the other way.

Now that's good information to know, so could the exhaust pressure ever be greater then intake when using a full flow exhaust system?

I don't think it would matter because I don't think the exhaust system would affect the pre turbo pressure that much at the up-pipe where the egr picks up it's flow.

Now I'm confused. I'm thinking about doing only the sneaky pipe. What else do I have to do? Unplug EGR?

It would be better to have your tuner turn off the egr in the programming

elite told me that nothing will enter the egr even with its input open as long as the egr valve is off. They said they've been doing it like this for awhile and never had problems. They also said it may benefit cooling although not by much but every little bit helps on this engine.

I asked them how it would be if I unplugged it when the truck was off(to make sure the valve is closed) as a temporary solution and they said that's fine. It could run a little funny and maybe throw a code but shouldnt be any problems. I read before that even with it unplugged it could still turn open under certain conditions but I'm not sure if that's true. So unplug it and maybe think of a tuner someday. They are nice
