Hello all-heres my problem--all the running/parking lights and license plate light on the back of my truck quit working. The brake lights, turn signals and four ways all work fine. My truck is a 2002 F-350 w/ a dump box (that has five running lights on it) Anyone know which fuse controls this circut??? Any other ideas?? The lights on the cab all work fine--just the rear are out. Thanks in advance for any help.
Find the connetion where the dump body is connected to the wiring harness. Sounds like something has come undone. No fuse for just the rear lights, unless it is tied into the trailer tow circuit which would be fuse #38 on your truck.
I checked fuse #38 and its ok. I've traced the wires from the lights to a plug (4 pin)between the rear crossmember and the fuel tank, and I have power to it when the turn signals and brake lights are on--nothing when the lightswitch is turned on. This plug has four wires going into it, three from the drivers side and one from the passenger side. If you follow the single wire on the passenger side it connects to another plug that has four wires coming into it, when I unplug that connection I have power to one of the pins in that plug when the lightswitch is on, so my question is do you think that single wire harness is bad or does the power for the rear lights come in from the drivers side somewhere?? That whole four wires into a connecter with only one wire coming out the other side has me confused. Also what color wire is the feed for the rear lights? Thanks again for your help.
Not sure what you have. Might want to start at the bulbs themselves. Check for power there, follow those wires from the back of the truck checking each connection for power. I still thinking a harness has broken or come unplugged. You may even have a ground wire loose some where. It is easier for me to trace backwards from the problem to the source.
Well I found the broken brown wire--it took about seven hours to find it, 5 min to fix it and another hour and a half to put everything back together. It ended up being in the truck harness under the fuel filler neck about six inches from the end of the drivers side frame rail--what a pain to get to. Anyhow everythings working great now---thanks for the help.
