would a valve body be enough for my stock tranny if i was wanting to get a dp tuner and run the 120 race ever now and then and the 140 smoke just to blow a little smoke sometimes but mostlyleave it on the 80 E.
I asked this same question awhile back.......If your tranny is in good shape, a BTS Valve body, or a John Wood VB along with a new beefy torque converter, a triple, would be plenty for the DP. Although....it still won't perform like a new BTS would obviously, but most people don't have $4,000 bucks laying around for a rainy day!
I'm running stock tranny with the DP in my signature. Haven't had any issues hauling the horse trailer or the small amount of plowing(10.5 hours with a ton and a half of salt in the back) I have done so far this year. About 10K miles since installation of the DP. I run in 80 most of the time but certainly hit it hard on occasion in 120 and 140 when the opportunity "presents" itself.
I had a stock transmission with a Valve body, truck's transmission was perfect when i bought it. I was rarely hard on it, for the fact of knowing i had a stock '4r that could go at any minute. i only got on it when the tc was locked, trying to preserve it. When it started shuddering with the TC unlocked on mild accel, i booked an appt at BTS, drove the 1350 miles there. Brian said i was lucky i made it there under my own power after he tore it apart. Its just a matter of time when you try to send more power through these things. In my case, i got 99.8% of the life out of mine. (re-born at 84k miles)
