It looks like I have an oil line leak from the line on the top right of the engine on my '02 7.3L. The outside of the turbo is kinda gunked up from where oil sprays up on it. The leak is small, but enough to be annoying. It looks pretty simple to change out this hose, but I figured I should ask before I start. Has anyone here replaced the hose and is there anything special I should be aware of? Maybe it is just the fitting on the block side?
I don't really know what it is, but it feeds into the block kind of under the turbo. Looks like a high pressure line... flexible braided stainless if I remember right.
OK last bump, I promise... LOL
My plan is to clean the engine really well and then see if I can figure out where it is coming from. Will Simple Green cut through this much sludge? From what I have been reading, it looks like that line I suspect is the HPOP line where it goes into the driver's side of the engine. Is there an o-ring there too?
I am not losing a lot of oil, just enough to leave spots in the driveway and obviously make the top of the engine nasty!
Simple green ought to help. Make sure the boot off the turbo is tight. Then try tightening up the line with a wrench first. I had a leak on the other head in one of my 02's that was fixed by just tightening it up.
It might take a few shots to get it clean don't use a pressure washer just use your good ol garden hose and rinse that valley out really good . Then start hunting I would put a wrench to both oil lines and all the plugs and go from there.
I just took my truck to the guy that i bought it off because of a oil leek coming down the back side and he checked it out and said all he had to do was tighten the fittings to those hoses
Hi, yes there are o-rings on each end of that hose and if you search HPOP on here you will get more info on them. Check out dieselorings.com they have a set of 4 for $3.50. Hope this helps, Dave
