I want to do a 'primer black' paint job on my 70 F-100, what would be the best way to do this?
Also, I've never painted a whole car, I'm sure a lot of you have done it so, what should I know before I dive into this new project? I know I'm gonna wanna sand down to bare metal, any other things I should be doing before or during the painting?
And one more thing, Would I need to wet sand with a flat paint job? I'm thinkin not but I don't know.
There is a single stage, low maint. flat black paint out there but the name escapes me. Saw it on a panel truck once, the owner said he just sprayed it with Windex and wiped it off to clean it. You would need to prep for it like any other paint though so yes, you would need to sand prior to painting. If your existing paint is in good shape it may only be necessary to sand it just enough to get good adhesion for the new paint. It's not always necessary to go all the way to metal.
The guys down in the paint/body forum can probably help more.
i plan to do the same thing, i am going to get about 15 or so cans of rustolum (spelling??) spray paint and just go to town. if you go to the paint and body form on this site and do a search you will find a ton of topics on this very subject
