7.3 running rough

Ok so I just got my fuel lines fixed so that solved the leaks. However, my truck is still running really rough like when the line was broken. Could I have f'ed up an injector? Is this a more serious problem with the cylinder? I really need to get this thing fixed so any input you guys can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks Fellas!

Ok you can find injectors for under 300 for the set.

www.mwfi.com

They have new Delphi injectors listed for the 88 for 24 dollars each.
So you are looking at 192 plus shipping and tax.

Before you go that far, are you running any diesel conditioner in your fuel?

A double dose of Diesel Kleen may fix your problem if you are not using a conditioner on a regular basis.

No, I havent been running any conditioner. I drove it for about 10 minutes today and I started smelling/seeing fuel dripping, so I dont know what the deal is. I need to get it all ironed out asap though. The fuel problems are the only problems I've ever had with the truck.

Could it be related to the amount of fuel in the tanks. I am sure you know but many times the fuel pickup lines break and cause these trucks to run rough or starve the engine of fuel. Usually happens around 1/3 tank......but since you have leaky lines its probably not this.....but I am trying.

Any fuel leak is bad.... This will cause rough running depending on where the leak is. By the way where is the leak?? If in fuel lines it will cause it to run and start hard by letting air into the system.

The fuel is leaking from 1 or more of the lines coming off of the injection pump. They keep breaking, apparently because they didnt have the clamps on there. Now I thought I got the leak fixed but it was still running rough, like the cylinder wasn't getting enough fuel. Now I smell fuel again so I'm thinking its another leak and possibly a bad injector now. I just had the injector seals replaced back in the fall. I'd like to fix it myself if at all possible. I dont wanna have to put it back in the shop. As far as I know it is not related to the amount of fuel left in the tanks...

Are the injection line clamps back on the engine?

You can see where they should be located in this picture.

No, I have to order them. That diagram sure helps with the placement though. I have to get out this weekend and see if I can diagnose it a little better.

With no clamps the lines will not last long before they crack.

Cheapest price I have seen for the injection lines is about 40 dollars each.

return line

In the picture i see you have your return line going back to your IP. is it possible to bypass that return line like that on a truck with the metal tube going back. I have a 86 f250 6.9 with the banks turbo and it is pretty hard to reach back and change the return lines. one is dangling back and i'm pretty sure it goes back to the gas tank. Is your setup similiar with the return line going to the tank or does your IP capture all the fuel possible?

After looking at it again i can see you have the tank return . Is there a way to just bypass the tank return plug it and "contain" the system to the 8 cylinders and IP. It seems like it would deliver more fuel?

The old chevys runing the standyn pumps were run like that with no return to the tank just to the IP. Not really sure what that would change.

If the IP does not have a return line to the tank it will build to much housing psi and quite running or blow out the housing gasket. The same will happen if the check valve on the top of the pump is plugged. It regulates the housing psi.
