i'm running the Be Cool aluminum radiator and 15" elect. fan. It doesn't work any better than the old four row with clutch fan. I plan to add a shroud that should make it a lot better.

I've been wanting to try them out, I'm just waiting for a few other people to try them out first. The one parts guy around here is running them on his 70's F600 I believe it's a 390. Using a stock rad it works pretty well (setup from LMC Trucks) Using the shroud too! Even w/electric fans the shroud is a must

electric fans

I had to use and electric fan on my 69 F100 when I installed a 400 last fall. When the engine was bolted up, the waterpump pulley was not even close to center of the radiator. Now I admit I could have spent a bunch of time and money doing radiator mods, but that would not have been any fun. I found an electric fan off of a crown vic, wrecking yard for $35. I installed it with a kit from AZ that included the mounting hardware and a thermostatic, adjustable temp control relay, easy to wire up, and it works great. I mounted the temp probe in the radiator core under where the return, upper hose and as soon as the thermostat opens at around 185 deg F, the fan kicks on. The truck idles at about 190 and runs downt the road about most of the time with the fan kicked out. You can see my set up in my gallery if you are interested. Good luck.

Sounds like a good fix.
I have the stock clutch fan, but I was wondering if a flex fan would be any good. My usual rule of thumb is if OEM's don't do it, neither should I, but I did see a factory flex fan in a Camaro (it was cracked and buzzing, though).
Any thoughts? Electric fans seem like they have a lot of parts to fail.
Thanks!

I have a factory flex fan on my 400. Seems to work pretty well. They produce more drag and never quit moving (sucks in cold weather) but they don't have any parts to fail.
Like a clutch fan, they have to be aligned right or they won't work with a shroud. Mine hasn't had a shroud for about 10 years. I live about 30 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and we get some hot and humid days. I've never had it over-heat.

A good electric fan setup to look for in the salvage yards is the Taurus two-stage setup. Reportedly it moves a very large volume of air and is easy to adapt.
