I have an 05 SCrew. The other day I rode in an 07 SCrew and it felt like it rode better than mine. Both are stock. Is there a suspension difference or did I just experience a false envy pain?
Not really, except the FX4 has a slightly stiffer shocks (not Ranchos, but shocks that Ford labels as "off-road tuned"). What models are they (your 05 vs. the 07)?
How many miles on your 05? Some people claim the stock shocks start to go after only 20k or 30k miles. So the 07 might feel better since it's newer...
As Steve says- what trim levels were they? Same wheels and tires? That will make a big difference. You'll also see some variability truck to truck. When I bought my 04, I drove several trucks back to back and even though they were all the same trim level excluding one FX4, they all have the same wheels and tires, but all 4 rode a little different. There was probably some minor tuning differences between 05 and 07 as well.
Both are 4x4. My 2005 has 20k miles. The 2007 that I rode in has 15k miles and is a Lariat. The 2007 seemed firmer but I was not driving so I may be mistaken. The driver of the 2007 drove much faster than I do (around town) so maybe that caused it to feel stiffer. I'll try driving it to see if in fact it rides differently.
My 2005 seems to float if I go over a few bumps. For example, when crossing rail road tracks on a mild turn at 40 mphs, the truck seems to dance outwards.
