Power Window not working

Hello
The passenger door window is difficult to raise if it is lowered below the 1/2 way point. There is no sound like gears turning or grinding, it simply stops raising then you have to grab and lift the same time you push the button. I removed the panel and looked inside but didn't see anything out of place, and the 'track' the window rides in appears in good shape. To me it sounds like the motor is simply getting old and weak, any thoughts?

i have this same problem in my truck and from what ive heard there is little rollers that the gear rides on and there is a rebuild kit you can buy. i haven't checked into this but it makes sense. the kit is supposed to only be like $10, still better than the $120 window motor

My 1992 had the same problem. A couple of weeks ago I had the door panel removed to fix the latch handle mount and I spread a small amount of grease in the window lift channel at the bottom of the window where the regulator roller rides and on the big regulator gear. Now it zips up and down like a new one.

My 1990 had the same problem. If the motor operates, you should hear it, but the window doesn't move, then the problem is usually in the gearbox. You'll need to remove the door panel to get to the motor. There are 3 dimples where the actual motor mounts to the door's sheet metal. To remove the motor you have to drill these dimples out (1/2" hole) to be able to remove the 3 bolts that holds the motor in place. Be sure to prop the window assembly in the up position so that it does fall down on your hand and so you can also remove the motor out thru the large access hole in door. Once you have the motor out you'll need to remove the access cover for the gear assembly. Usually the failure point is the 3 plastic rollers that disintegrate and jamb the gearbox. These rollers are available at most parts stores. You'll need to be sure to clean out the gear area thoroughly. What I chose to do was to change the complete gear assembly. Also available at most parts stores like NAPA for about $ 20. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
