Actually i have two questions. the first is has anyone replaced the rear emergency brake cables on a 66 f-250 4X4. i tried to find them in all the books i have but with no luck. they all list for the f-100 . i did kinda a measurement woth a piece of string and then measured the string. they are approx.42 in. long with the cable coming out another 18 inches. maybe numberdummy can help me out here. someone posted last week that he had heard the Napa will build them if you take the measurements in to them. . they almost laughed me out of the place LOL. maybe someone has the part no. i can try and get them that way. i successfully installed the emergency foot brake and cable from a 76 f-150 yesterday so now all i have to do is get the cables for the back.
next question. I also cannot find a turn signal assembly for the same truck. none of my magazines list them for the 250 4X4. i did a comparison and the signal on my 64 4X4 f-100 looks identical to the one in the 66. jsut curious if these are the same setup. at this point i have not pulled the stearing wheels to see if they're compatable. been kinda cold here ( 6 below with a 20 mph wind and snowing) so i am not near enough of a fanatic to brave it and go outside . Thanks Dutch
Dutch, I'd like o see a picture of the foot parking brake install. I am considering the same, Also I think the cables from a later F150 would work. I bought a set of 66 F100 cables from Carpenter a few years ago and they worked pretty good. Not cheap!
Sorry William, i dont know how to post a picture. not puter literate enough. my son tried to show me one time and it got to involved and i got lost . may have to try again soon. sure would like to get my gallary goin. the cab ffloor pans are completely different between the F-100 and the 250 - 4 WD. the two wheel drives dont have the hump on the left side o the cab. the air vent on the 250 is pull handle driven from the dash where the F - 100's flip open. i inset the foot brake about two inches to allow for the air vent to open and it doesn't look out of place at all. i welded a 1 in. bolt to the top bolt of the foot peddle and it fit perfectly. drilled a hole directly underneith the peddle for the cable . the cable was shorter than the original so it worked very well. the rest hooked right up to the existing mechanism. if i recall correctly i fixed the emergency brake on my 64 4 - WD and had a lot of trouble finding the right cable. i was dealing with LMC at the time.soon as it warms up a bit I'm gonna measure the 64 cables and try to remember what i did ther to make it work. I used later model cables on my 62 F250 uni. from a 76 with a Dana 60. I then made the bracket to work. The stock cables are not made and you need to improvise.
I use Chevy truck cable connetors as there simple and small to make up the new connections, and braze new ends on the make up cables.
The turn signal assembly is not the same as the smaller daimeter collums. The turn signal in the 4x4 should be similar from 57 to 66 with the four spoke wheel. If you have the smaller diameter three spoke wheel then it is similar to the 2 wheel drive units.
