I have a '77 stock 460 that takes like 9-10 sec. to go 0-60. Problem is that when you stand on it the engine sounds like it bogs down and it does this when the engine is warm. Any ideas on how I can reasonably cheaply get my time down and get a snappier acceleration?

Is your accelerator pump working on the carb? With the engine off, remove the air cleaner and look down the carb barrels...open the carb with the linkage, you should see a squirt of gas spraying into the carb barrels. Also check your vacuum advance, the vacuum hose may have a leak or the vacuum advance canister may not work. Either one can make your engine bog.
I vote for Deen!
Vacuum advance is one of the most important items on a street motor with an automatic tranny.
Check advance with a timing light,it should move the instant the accelerator is opened, also make sure the vacuum line to the advance is routed to a "ported" vacuum port( vacumn present under throttle,NO vacuum at idle).
The absence of accelerator pump shot would cause a bad hesitation.
Where abouts is the vacuum line to the advance? Is it right behind the carb? I also forgot to mention that it runs fine in park but once you put the motor under load in drive and step on it, that's when it bogs down.
I agree with loosemoney, that accerlator pump not working would make it fall on it's face when ya stomp on it. But who would wanna do that.... he he, I had a carb like that once too, and never did figure out what it really was, it happened to be a 2bbl though. I did try another carb and worked great if only I could have made something for the kickdown cable to work...
i have a 78 f150 460, 750 holley, long tube headers, 2.5 in exhaust, and a 3.50 rear. it takes about 5-5.5 seconds. i dont know why, but its killer fast and its mostly stock. put a holley on it, i agree about the accelerator pump.
today i raced a 86 gt 5.0 from 60- 125mph (my top speed) i was pulling in the end! i couldnt believe it, i though id get killed but i shouldnt doubt BB ford power. my truck is almost 5000 lbs, it was awesome to see the look on his face when i was keeping up. i got flipped off and he tryed to run me off the road! funny seeing a mustang try to run my f150 off the road while im pulling on him at 100 plus.
