fuel gelled up?

ok, 2002 cc lb 7.3. let the wife use the truck friday night. she gets home, doesnt plug the truck in, and leaves it with a little less than 1/4 tank of fuel. truck doesnt get started until this morning, all weekend the temps were 0 to -25 with the wind chills. so i go start it, just cranks. you can tell its wearing down the battery so i stop. hook the jumpers up to her car and let it sit for a few minutes, cranks like it has a full charge but its just not getting fuel. would the fuel be gelled up? this is my first winter with a deisel and all has been well until this. any ideas?

Well, I think I'd check a few things to find out what it going on...Turn the key to ON and listen for the fuel pump under the drivers door, on the frame rail. You need to make sure if it is running (it will shut off after about 20 seconds or so). If the fuel pump runs, then go under the hood and open the water drain (you have been regularly draining off any water, right?) on the fuel bowl. With the key ON, you should get a good stream of fuel coming out of the drain. If the fuel pump isn't running, then you need to check the fuse for the pump (sorry, I can't remember what fuse number it is). If the pump is running, but you get no fuel at the fuel water drain, then my guess is that the fuel is gelled, though that is pretty high temps to have fuel gel at, unless maybe you are running straight biodiesel. Throw the block heater on it and then go to Wally's and buy some Diesel 911 and put it in the tank. Put a good charge (slow and long) on the batteries before trying to restart the truck. Let us know what you find, alright? Good luck...

Good possiblity. I would get some 911, dump some in the tank, then get that fuel filter changed. While doing all that, plug it in for a while. You are going to need a jump also to get that bad boy started. A guy I work with went through the same thing. We tried jumping his for over an hour.

How old and what condition are the batteries in? It takes pretty good batteries to start in cold weather. It is also very hard to get enough voltage to start them with cables. I'd suggest checknog battery voltage and charging them before you do anything else. Diesel doesn't just spontaneously gell to the point they won't get enough fuel to just start at those temperatures.

I didn't read too much, but if it sounds like there is NOOOOOOOOO fuel check your #30 fuse. It is a 30 amp located on the right second from bottom in the inside fuse box. This is your PCM, fuel bowl heater, and ___ and if that blows you can crank all day with out one hiccup of life.
I forgot, this is on my 01. I heard somebody once talk about how their newer truck was different.
