Lately no matter how long i drive my truck or what type of driving i do I can't get it to fully warm up. The gauge never goes past the lower line of the avg range (let me know if that doesn't make any sense-I haven't check actual temp yet)
I know it isn't just indicating low because my heat does work nearly as well as it did a couple months ago. I realize I live in NE and its currently 5degrees, but I had the same problem last week at 45. Even an hour highway driving in 35 weather and it doesn't go past the lower tick. Any suggestions of what to check?
I understand slow to warm up, but even running around town in 4x4 last it snowed didn't warm it up. Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
Brian
First thing I'd do is change your thermostat. It's probably stuck open. That's all I can think of. A bad heater core would cause no heat but not affect your temp gauge. The t-stat should be an easy fix.
I'll second calbery...the FIRST thing to pop into my head was T-stat...
I know my V10 makes heat FAST...I have a digital gauge and I can watch the engine temps rise close to 1-2°F per couple of seconds...in less than 3-4 minutes my engine is making heat at the registers...and a couple past that and I'm at the 185°F operating temp where it stays...of course if the T-stat is stuck open...in the cold temps we have...you would likely NEVER get up to operating temp...
Thats what I was figuring too. I actually have a drivetrain warranty and really don't feel like working on my truck after I get home from working outside all night (flightline USAF) Is a tsat considered a wear item or should they cover it?
Thanks for confirming what I already thought

Just to followup - the dealer said a t-stat IS a wear item and isn't under the warranty. Either way all it took was less than 15min to change (including finding the tools) and about 10 bucks. Everything works great! This was actually the easiest one I've done on any engine. Glad I didn't even waste my time at the dealer.
