i have a 1986 ford f-350 with a 460 that wont start i have fuel but no fire new coil, ignition switch and that little box on the fenderwell still no fire but i do have 12 volts going 2 coil please help me thanks
Take the dist cap off, and make sure the rotor is turning when you crank the engine. If it is, I would suspect the pickup down inside the dist may be bad.
Put a testlight on the negative of the coil, and put the other end of the testlight on the engine block. Try to crank it. The light should blink when the engine is turning.
I was going to say, if the coil negative is blinking, I dare you to take the high voltage wire off the center of the coil and stick your finger down in it and get someone to turn the engine over. If the negative of the coil is blinking, then the dist pickup and the module on the fender are doing their job(turning the coil on and off) and you will get spark out of the top of the coil.
Take the coil wire off of the dist cap, stick a spark plug directly into the coil wire, hold it against a clean spot on the engine somewhere and then turn it over. If you still have no spark, then your new coil is no good either if you have intermittent (blinking) on the negative side of it like someone else has already mentioned......
If you do have spark, then there is something wrong with your cap and or rotor if it is in fact spinning.....
