Yea, scrap is about it for the block. Just too many around.

I picked up a ’74 AMC Hornet sedan for a quart of Old English 800 beer (the wheel bearing gave out as he turned my corner and the car landed in my front yard with three wheels).
I invited him in and as he was already lit, I offered him a quart for the car (these were simpler times). He had the title so it was a deal.
I replaced the spindle (with drum) for $25.00 and started driving it. No spedo so no idea on the miles but when it idled, it would knock like a diesel and the oil light would come on. I drove it that way (with full oil) for about 6 months until I went to start it one night. It cranked and then made an awful clunk. I crawled under it to see the flywheel teeth had cut their way through the bell housing. It seemed like all the oil was on the ground as well. Needless to say, the mains were gone.
I got $50.00 from the bone yard but I had to tow it in. Not too bad for a beer eh?

Hey - you may not have a whole lot to lose. Get the motor out, and take a look inside the bottom end - if things are looking clean, then you may be able to get away with changing out the main and rod bearings (they are wear parts). Get yourself a good micrometer and mic your journals - if you don't know how to do this, find someone who does. If theyre not worn out, you could just rebuild what you've got..but its only worth money after you figure out whats wrong with it.

ok, maybe a boat anchor would not be a good idea.

how about a mailbox?

the cylinders could hold the mail.

You could also clean up the bare block real well and put a sheet of glass on top for a coffee table (need to use rubber stoppers in between).....Don't ask me how I know this as it is a sore subject in my house lol. But it does actually create a GREAT convo piece.

That does sound really cool.

Personally, I'd ask the guy who's rebuilding the roller block if he wants it, since by all accounts he's giving you a deal on that block. Gets if off your hands and gives him something else to rebuild.

I am dealing with some low low oil pressure with my 90 f150 also so dont feel bad. I bought it couple months ago i knew it was leaking oil badly out the pan/ timing cover and saw where the dummy didnt even scrw the bolts in al lthe way when he changed the timing gear water pump etc......anyways i knew it had low oil pressure but she fired up and ran pretty darn well for 255,000 miles. So i bought it knowing i would have tofreshen the engine up. I am hopeing that all it needs is some rod/main bearings. I hope that this can be done simple without pulling the motor and re ringing the motor i guess i neeed to check the compression and see if its within spec! Good luck with yours!!
