rear DVD issue??

rear DVD issue??

I have an 03' X with the factory overhead DVD system. My problem is that it only reads/plays less than 20% of the DVD's I try. The screen reads "disk error". Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a remedy for this? I get the error with either original or bootleg DVD's. Please help, this is driving me crazy.

wonder if it is in the player, mine gives the same error message when a CD is placed in slot 4. no other slots give that problem.

The DVD player in my 04 ex started to do the same thing. Luckily I have the extended warranty. The dealer said that the unit had to be repaired so it was sent out no less than 3 times for repairs. Everytime it came back it would work for a little while and then crap out again. After much frustration the dealer said they would order me a new unit, after waiting a few weeks they were told the units were no longer available from ford parts. Finally they ended up sending the entire thing to I think "Panasonic" for repairs. It seems that panasonic replaced the internal portion with new parts...so they say. Cross my fingers it has been great ever since.

what company makes those for ford. When i got my 2002 the screen itself was missing along with the DVD player.

My 02 X 's system was audiovax. I had a problem with the flex ribbon. It made it so you were not able to see the movie but you were about to listen to it. For what I had to pay to get it fixed, probably should have just baught a new one. Once again mine was by Audiovax. look at thier website and try to match it.

All of these money issues is exactly why I decided not to go the overhead or
OEM overhead route. And I like having at least dual monitors as well.

Does any know if a 05' factory DVD player will directly swap out for a 03' model? The only difference I see is the 05' has wireless headphone outputs. Are the main harness connection plugs the same? has anyone done this before?
