Jack option?

Okay, this is completely not related to Powerstrokes. But I want to ask here because I know somewhere in this wealth of knowledge, someone can answer this question. Who knows, or know where to find info on making a floor jack work off of air. At the 4whee Jamboree a few years back, I noticed the monster truck guys had normal floor jacks with air hooked to them. So I asked about them and they said "yeah, we convert all our jacks." I want to know how to do this. Anybody ever seen, or heard about this?

Ah ha! i can work with this one RD.

Air cylinders and hydrolic cylinders are simmilar, but slightly different on the whipers they use.

If you change out the wipers and backups in the cylinder, you should be able to change the cylinder out to work with air instead of the hydrolic pressure it works with now.

If it already works with air, you just need to make it so you can hook a hose up to it with an air let off. Because i do belive they work on the system of single side fill at that point, and weight pushes them down.

If it is a hydrolic, it will probably transfer fluid from one side to the other. Which you will basically just leave one end open, and just ram air into the other side of the cylinder iwth the hose. But you still have to change the wipers out. You might be able to get by without it.
I've never taken a floor jack appart, so i have no idea. But they generally have some leak down and require new wipers. God i hope i havn't been spelling that with an H the whole time.. ooops.

I do have a fair knowlege with wipers and such, but not an extensive. just in the whole how they work and what they do setup.

Talyn:

The air pressure is nowhere near high enough to lift the truck with the size cylinder they use.

The air powered hydraulic jacks use an intensifier. They have a pump with a larger air cylinder and smaller hydraulic cylinder that cycles back and forth. Because the hydraulic cylinder is much smaller, it can generate hydraulic pressure far higher than the air pressure.
