C6 rebuild question.

I had bought a master rebuild kit from Oregon Performance Transmission for my C6. I am confused though because there are two different style of clutch fibers it came with. One set has a smooth fiber surface and the other set has grooves in the fiber surface. Which one goes in the forward clutch and which one goes in the direct clutch? The fibers are Borg Warner brand. I am adding fibers to both clutches but I also question the performance of the smooth fibers. Anyone have any insight? Oregon Performance Transmission doesn't list a phone number and they haven't returned my email.

The smooth plates are for the forward drum.

Waffle or grooved go in the direct.

Yes.

In any forward gear those plates are applied.

The direct plates are not applied unless the transmission is in either high or reverse.

Once the vehicle is under way in Low or 1st. gear the direct clutches spin in opposite directions.

In second gear the drum is held by the band but the fibre plates are turning at or close to engine speed.

The grooves are there to throw off any residual fluid to prevent a partial application or making contact with the steels and burning prematurely.
