I have 2v 351 cleveland in my 77 f150. Its got an edlebrock performer 4v manifold with a edelbrock 600cfm carb. I put a new cam in it with .494 lift and a set of headers. I was doin a brake stand with it last night and when i let off the gas pedel it stalled. I started it back up and I let the truck warm up a little more and tried it again and it stalled again. Anyone know what might be the problem?
its a brand new carb would the floats be that for out right out of the box?
A new carb could have a needle valve or other part out of place due to shipping. Yes, the floats on a new carb can be off. The good news is that you can just remove the top of an Edelbrock to check.
Check your plugs and see how black they are. You might be putting too much fuel in if the carb is factory set. Edelbrock sells a calibration kit with different jets and metering rods and springs to adjust your mixture in cruise mode and power mode. Don't forget you should also set your idle mixture screws on the front of the carb.
Adjustments are very nice on an Edelbrock, with about 9 screws removed from the top you can flip it off quickly. Metering rods are even easier, with a one-screw access cover on each.
Because you are in MB you are likely well above sea level, and factory Edelbrock carbs come set for sea level.
freakinsweet351 .... send me a message, i'd like to talk
hey, i am trying to get some info, and i'd like you to email me freakinsweet351. shoot me an email at kellerhead68@netzero.net if you would. you sent me a message on one of my 351c posts looking for info. your running the same setup i am putting in my 76 f100. my question is about your intake. you have the 351 4v intake right, not the 2v? and you are running 2v heads correct? i have a 4v intake and 2v heads, and i was told the 4v intake will not work correctly, so i am in the process of selling my intake and getting a 2v. but if it seals and works fine, i see no reason to change it. i will have the motor in today i hope. but i still need a bunch of little stuff before i can get it started up. shoot me a message to my email so we can chat back and forth if you would. i'd like to see some pictures of your truck and engine bay if possible. thanks, jeremy
