timing for 429
What degree timing should a 429 with a mild cam ( 262-272 advertised ) have? I am at about 12 degrees BTC at idle and 28 degrees at around 1500 RPM. This is without the vacum advance. With the vacuum advance on, we were not even on the scale at idle.

With the type of cam you have I'd say 12-13 degrees intial timing is a good start. 460's like to have a total degree advance of about 32 degrees and all of that timing in by 2800-3000 rpm. You need to find the "timed spark" vacuum port on your carburetor for the vacuum advance of your distributor to work properly.
You can adjust your distributor's advance curve to suit your needs with springs and an allen wrench that fits inside of vacuum port of the vacuum advance
canister. I hope this helps.
