I have the 5.4L V-8 and it started misfiring rather badly this past week. Just one cylinder I think though. Not knowing for sure what was wrong, I got it home and parked it until this afternoon. My diagnostic strategy (no codes on the OBD scanner, no check engine light) was to buy a set of plugs and as I replaced the old ones, to carefully inspect the coils, wiring, and condition of the old plugs. Before it got dark today, I was able to get to the #1 cylinder and found the coil boot wet. A closer look showed about an inch of water in the plug well. Just clean water, not coolant. I assuming I may have already found my problem, but here are my questions:
Anyone else found water in their plug wells?
First time with the COP system, so how tight should I expect the coil connection to be on the plug? Putting the #1 COP back in, I found it to be much easier (looser) than a plug wire would have been.
Although the COP looks okay, I figure there's still a good chance it may have been ruined by water intrusion. Thoughts?
