I've read many posts here about problems and hoped that I would never have any. Well, guess it's my turn. I had been driving for about 45 minutes today when I got into town, pulled up to a stop sign and the engine died. After I realized why the truck was quiet, I hit the key and it was running fine, just like it did the rest of the day. No check engine light, no hesitation or jerking, no nothing, just died and started fine. Am I experiencing the beginning of the end of my CPS? Haven't received the recall letter yet but my truck is on the list. Is this a common symptom of the CPS failing?
The engine dying or sputtering for no apparent reason, then running fine like nothing ever happened is one of the symptoms of a bad CPS. You might see if you can sneak into a dealer tomorrow or Monday for that recall.
Yep. Cps. Mine started going bad the same way. Skipped a beat coming up to a stop. Within two weeks I had severe cut-out issues and was forced into a 20 min change-out in a McDonalds parking lot in the rain. Get a new gray one and you're good to go. Don't buy a black one, they're the old ones. 10mm wrench and a flat head screwdriver to pry it out of the block is all you need.
Thanks for the replies. I have a new gray CPS in the glove box but guess I will head to the dealer next week to let them change it under the recall. This truck has been so good since I got it, even in the very cold weather, that I wasn't expecting it to die like that. Guess that is an easy fix.
