Shutoff problems

I drive a 2002 7.3 Excursion and latley It has been shutting off when im driving. Its not just in the cold weather so the fuel isnt jelling. Today it shutoff 5 times. The engine will shut off, I will stop and put it in park and then start it up again. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks

Have you done your Cam Position Sensor recall yet? I had the same problem and that fixed it. I think the recall # is 07S57.....

bob congrats on the 1st post. That is the best way to start off. I am guessing CAM or possible alternator possibly. Any flickering of lights? does the battery signal come up when it stall? Also can you pull codes? That would help.

The 7.3s have that recall. One issue it could also be is your PATS module. On my 2000 Excursion V10 that had gone bad. The dealership replaced it for me and I was on my way. It had similar symptoms.

Either way, take it to the dealer and have them check it out. Perform the recall first anyway, and if that doesn't solve the problem, go back for the PATS module.
