I've been reading alot about stroking a 460. Any information would help ALOT!! What's this about getting your crank offset ground and using C*VY rods. I know there's alot of kits you can order but that's alot of money, there's got to be a way a person could inbreed one alot cheaper. I just read about using M*p*r rods???
I've got a buddy that built a 514 using six cylinder Ford rods. They used an article from a magazine that built this engine for off-shore power boat racing. It runs strong and has had no failures and is relatively inexpensive to build. Total Performance in Ocala Fl did the build-up.
I believe the article was about "Fritz Marine Automotive"? The article ran in SF a few years ago and they had 3 versions of the stroked 460. A 514, 600 and a 715 incher. Don't quote me on the 715, but I do know it was well over 700 cubes, and produce over 860 HP and a tons of torque. I would have to find the article. Going by memory here........lol I don't know if the company is still around? I would guess not since they would have advertisements in the major mags, Mustang Monthly, SF, and Mustang and Fords.
You're getting me all excited here...
I've been excited about the 514 :-) ...
and there is a 545 kit (or maybe it is crate) available...
now you tell me about a 600 :7 ...
and a 700+... yikes...

Perry, you don't know the half of it .
I'm going to find the article and post the info. I do know that the 715 incher or so was a SVO Block and SVO head setup. Price was way up there in the Heavens somewhere. The other 2 where within 6K or so the latter was available with or without SVO heads. The 514 was a all cast iron setup around 4K.

The largest displacement is 830 cubes Oo !!!
It was in the Sept 92 Mustang and Fords Mag. The name of the company is Fritz Marine Engineering in Long Lake MN. (612) 473-9203. I'm not sure if they are still in business though. If you want a copy I can fax them to you. A little history on the 830 is a SVO Tall block. 12.250 inches There were approximately 8 variations. Starting with a 500, 510, 552, 600, 707, 808 and the monster 830 cubic incher. Price, remember my phrase in the Heavens somewhere? Well, the 808, 830 engine is @ 45K! All the other motors were under 15K. These engines were a crate motor. All you had to do was drop it in a start the car. Probably the whole system could be done for half the cost if done by a home builder.
The 552 incher was done with all cast iron parts yard parts Just a little note. The 600 incher was a SVO cast iron block and SCJ heads that yielded 834HP and 752 ft/lbs of Torque. WHEW :->
The engines of 808 and 830 seems to be a team effort between Fritz and Jon Kaase.
Let me know if you'd like a copy of the article. :-)
Hey this is muddog,I started all this and I'd really like a copy of that too!! Could you E-mail that to me?
To get back to the first question,Ch*vy rods?? Mo*or Rods??
LAST EDITED ON 06-Feb-01 AT 03:33 PM (EST)[p]I hate to pile on, but I would be forever indebted if you could send me a copy as well. E-mail or fax either one would be fine.
I would most certainly want a copy of the article. It would be best if you emailed it, as there is no cost in that. You can send it to: bennettp@inac.gc.ca
It is not surprizing that this information has caused a stir... LOL!
There are some threads on this site that talk about stroking the 460 to 514/521... I believe Chevy rods are mentioned. I'll see if I can find them to give you the referrence.
I tagged a message onto the two threads I referrenced, so they'd show up on the current page. The thread called "460 cnversion" contains a message describing the build up to a 514/520. 514 is stock bore, 520 is .030 over.
please email me a copy of that article. donsboy@email.com thanks my wife wont let me buy another truck but she didnt say i couldnt build a stroker 460 for my 65 !!!!!!
