My dad just bought a 95 F150 4x4 with a 300/auto in December. It has 138K miles on it. It drives and rides very well.
This problem just came up recently. The F150 started to shake at idle and when you get it up to highway speed, it shakes like you wouldn't believe. It feels like it's starved for fuel. It also smokes a bit. I replaced the wires, plugs, and one injector. After I got done with the injector swap, it revs a bit. Did I mess up something? What can I do to get rid of the shaking? It's driving me nuts! Have any of you ever had a problem just like this?
A little more info would be helpful....Not quite sure what would be causing the shaking. I would clean the IAC valve and change your fuel filter. The IAC controls your idle air. It is attached to the throttle body and is quite easy to remove and clean. As for the fuel filter, you will likely need a small tool to remove the existing one. The iac when dirty will stick and that will cause the revving at idle. Picture of IAC
Double check your firing order on your spark plugs. Make sure that all of your plugs and wires are good. New does not meen good! I would also look at the cap to make sure all is connected well.
I had a similar issue with a 250 I6 in a 65 mustang coup, and it wound up being a bad crimp on a brand new plug wire.
Ottawaguy, that's all the info I have. Someone told me it could be the intake manifold gasket not sealing and I would have to seal it because it was sucking air in.
TFowler, I just put new NAPA blue wires on it a week ago. I took them off one at a time and I made sure they were on good and tight. I also made sure they were the same size and routed the same way. Are NAPA parts junk and should I stick with Motorcraft?
I'm not sure who makes the Napa wires. I changed mine a few months ago and used Bosch which was all they had up here at our local Canadian Tire. They seem ok....made an improvement...but the previous wires were original.
Most folks on this site will swear by the Motorcraft though.
Not sure about the intake.....not sure it would just come on like that though...but I'm no expert.
did it start to do this before or after the wires were changed?
tfowler is right that it can cause the engine to run very badly
Not 100% sure...but it could also be a vacum leak i think.
