4x4 not working

4x4 not working
88 f250 c6 4x4
just got the truck its my first 4x4 maybe its broke maybe im doing something wrong?
stock manual hubs.
1. lock hubs.
2. shift into neutural
3. lock t-case into low or high
4. put in drive
it should work then right?
my hubs are getting hot to touch fast, and also kinda smell like burning greese im going to take it apart tomorrow but want any info i can get.

sounds like the hubs are shot-jack the front wheels up-lock the hubs-spin them foward and backwards a time or 2-do they lock??get harder to turn??if not you may have to replace the hubs-always best when buying 4x4 to check out the 4 wheel components-

ok thanks, thats why i thought, ill check it tomorrow. i plan on throwing in some warn premiums anyway guess its just sooner then later.
i dont want to give you a life story but i personally havnt been able to look at this stuff yet. i live about 2 hours away the truck is at my parents house. the truck isnt a DD its just a play truck.
