i see a lot of folks are getting broken spark plugs on their 5.4s. are these same problems happening on the expeditions with the 5.4? 2003-2006 in particular.
yeah that's what i mean, stuck plugs. over in the f150 forums people have gotten broken plugs. i assume from them being stuck and trying to remove them. so it does affect 03-06 5.4 expeditions too, huh?

I believe the issue is in the design...so will have nothing to do with what vehicle it is in. 4.6 and 5.4s all use the plug through intake design with the coil over plug. What is going on is that dirt and water can seep into the channel where the plug is, and then basically cause the plug to weld itself to the head. I've heard of and seen many an engine have to have the heads removed so the plugs could be removed, then heli-coiled to fix the problem. Pretty lame from a design standpoint.
Mine will have an even bigger PITA next time the plugs are due, as I had a heater hose leak right above the back two plugs/coils on the passenger side...good old green stuff should hold those plugs in tight for me. ARGH!
My first post here. I looked the site up because of an issue with my 06 Navigator. Took it to the dealer Thursday to have new plugs, throttle body cleaning and engine induction service. She has 114K miles on her. I got the call Thursday afternoon that they would have to get me a loaner. They broke 7 of the 8 plugs off in the head. They said it was because of carbon build up around the lower part of the plug. They got them out today and I picked it up and headed home. drove about 10 miles total. About a mile from the house the engine started bucking, kinda like driving on a washboard dirt road. When I got home and checked under the hood I noticed oil comming up out of the #1 cylinder spark plug hole. Tow truck left with it about an hour ago. Any thought of comments would be helpfull to find out what I am up against.
