Which 5 speed trans ?
If you know of such a trans please tell what type it is and if you know the ratio betwween the gears that would be helpful. Also what years the trans might of been available in trucks.
First, do you have a hydraulic clutch? If so, you can convert to the Mazda built "M5OD" trans that was installed in later model F150s. The throwout bearing is tricky, you may need cross member work and driveshaft work.
Or, T5 as in Mustang (V8) trans. 1st will be a bit tall with your gears but you can change those. The OD is taller with that trans. No towing or banging gears, but it will hold up ok. Cross member, adaptor, driveshaft, tailshaft and shifter from S10 model so your shifter is in the right spot.
3rd would the the heavier ZF 5 speed, needs hydraulic clutch, gears are not close as 1st is "granny", 5th OD.
The T5 uses a separate bell, and will probably bolt up to your bell with an adaptor.

T5 info.
With a 2.75, pulling OD is going to be tough. What trans do you have now?
The truck is not on the road yet due to a bad pinion bearing and the brakes are all shot. After I get the rear end back together and brakes , oh yeah and the gas tank replaced, I want to drive it with the 3 speed it has now and see how it does. I don't do much highway driving but would like to have an O/D to help out for when I do. I'm also in the process of putting a fatory tach in it so I'll know about what rpm range I'm in each gear.
