Roller Rocker Valve Train?

I will be replacing the '73 heads on my 460 with '69 or '70's heads. I was wounder about an adjustable valve train with roller rockers. Is there a kit that is made? How much extra money would it be? And how much extra work?

The block is a '71 460. Going in a 85 F-250 Truck.

If you get the early heads, you really don't need a kit to run adjustable rockers. Just get the studs, rockers, guideplates, and hardened pushrods.

You also need to machine .230 from the top of were the stud screws on to keep the geometry right on the valve train.I did not do this at first on my engine and the valve guides were gone in about 2,000 miles.Since I did this to my heads I have'nt had any more trouble. You will also need to check for push rod length and order the right ones,I used Trick Flows, they come in any length that you need.

Could you give me a list of ALL the parts you used the cam and every thing???...I am think of the edelbrock cam/lifters/intake/carb package..the performer RPM...it sais it requires and adjustable valve train in the jegs catalog.

The edlbrock package is probably a good choice,I have two of their 750 carbs and am very happy with them.I used a Ford Motorsports cam part#M-6250-A442,Crane fast bleed lifters,Trick Flow push rods,Ford valve springs part#DOZZ-6513-A,Crane Energizer roller rockers,Manley guide plates and studs. The Ford Motorsports catalog has a engine building tips and specifications section in the back that has the imformationabout machining the head for adjustable valve train.Hope this helps ya out.

You need to be very careful when swapping around heads on 460's and watch your compression ratio's. Take into consideration on what your using the motor for. I currently am building two more trucks, Both with 460's. The crewcab is going to be a tow rig so to keep from having to run premium or run the timing back I am using the non adjustable style head. That was the one I needed for the compression I wanted. But instead of milling the heads I installed cranes new screw in stud conversion kit. It was very easy to install and then you are able to run anybodies roller rockers with complete adjustment. Oh the kit does come with guideplates but I would advise new pushrods. The ones from the motorsports catalogue are case hardened.

Bushman is right about the compression ratio.I have a 69 429 in my 77 F-250 4x4 and i have to run it with the vacum advance unhooked and run 93 octane just to pull a 16'jon boat and trailer or it rattles really bad.I'm putting a set of 92cc chamber heads on it to make it more drivable, and I think I may even gain some power by being able to hook the advace back up and give it some more timing.

What if I ran just 69 heads with the small combustion chamber heads. But they were reconiditoned? With those heads can i run the Performer RPM package?

Why does the Performer RPM package say it can only be used with an adjustable valve train?
