there is my truck
its a 99 f150 4x4 with 150k miles and 9in of lift
i just finished swaping motors and my old one is bored .30 over and i want to rebuild it
i also want to put nerf bars on it cuz im gettin to fat to get in it lol
and i want a brush guard with more kc lights and posible a new paint job
and i need bigger gears but i dont know what size to put in it and if there is anything else that would look awesome on it hit me up
thanks
well what gears you running now 3.55 or 3.73 i would go 4.10 or even 4.30 or 4.56 those are some huge meats and big lift great looking truck man that looks wicked
I am running 35'' tires on my truck with 410 gears and the 5.4l. It has power just like it did with stock tires so I would go with 456 I dont think that would be to low. Running 38s
i really dont know what gears are in it but its a turd now that i put a stock motor in it, do u think that 4.56 gears would make it close to stock again
sweet ride, go with a a ranch hand grill guard you can either get one that bolts on the front or a full bumper replacement black in color, some westin nerf bars would look awsome
i dont do much highway driving so id be better off putin 4.88's in it?
does anyone know roughly how much that would cost
It depends on what rear end you have. Is it a round looking differential, or an oval shaped? if its the round diff, gears are pretty reasonable, this is the same diff used by the mustangs. a 4.56 or 4.88 gear would be around 160- 200 dollars. remember that you will have to change the front axle gears also. And also that would be a great time to rebuild the trac-loc or replace with an actual mechanical locker. A good locker will run around 400 500 dollars. Then you have the installation. Make sure that you change all the bearings in the rear axle while its all apart. a rebuild kit i think is around 100 bucks. Labor varies, i would say that $200 would be a good price for labor. thats per axle. so, its kinda expensive in my opinion, but it will wake the truck up and make it feel like you got a supercharger.

truck looks so good, I couldn't think of anything when I looked at it the first time, but now that you mentioned nerf bars yeah, i'll second that. They would look good on there.
Should have thought of that right away... I took mine off for a couple days, and my ol lady b!tched & moaned about it the whole time because it was harder to get in the truck.

it looks the same as my dads 2000 f350's rear end its kinda squared off but round at the same time lol

Sounds like you've got the sterling rear axle. I am not familiar with this axle other than its just nuts and bolts that hold it together. I think that its 9.75 Inches around at the ring gear. I have the same diff in my 98 4x4 5.4. AS far as i can tell its no different than just a regular 8.8, I am just not sure on the prices of parts if there is a difference beween 9.75 and 8.8. Definitely the gears is a must have part for you now. Running the big tires on stock gears is super hard on your tranny.
If you're lookin' for cosmetic ideas, I'm a big fan of billett grilles. It was on of the first things that I did to my 2000. I picked mine up on Ebay and it was surprisingly decent quality for the price.
