Besides the 2 wheel bearings, there is a small needle bearing and seal inside the rear of the hollow spindle shaft. It is there to support the rear of the outer axle shaft. Hope I said it so that it makes sense!

There is a bearing pressed onto the axle.
There are no small needle bearings.

Remove the hollow spindle, the needle bearing and bearing seal fit into the rear of it. There is a dust seal also. If you look at the outer axle shaft, you will notice it has a very smooth area on the end next to the yolk, this is the area the bearing runs on. It is NOT a press fit. Install bearing, seal, and dust seal into spindle and slide it over outer axle, install 6 nuts that hold spindle on, ect. Possible that nothing is left of old bearing to use as reference and they will run without it, sure helps to keep down vibiration at high speed 4x4(snow).

spindle can be a real pain to get off made my own tool to go on slidehammer to get them off was doing a lot of axle joints and alot of spindles are the same tread like the ranger explorer gm if its 1/2 ton axle
That denotes front axle.
